The film was shot in real locations to immerse the audience in the vibrant world of Punjab’s folk music, particularly in the rustic Akhadaas of villages where Chamkila used to mesmerize audiences with his powerful voice.” Tragically, he was assassinated at the tender age of 27, alongside his wife Gurmail Kaur, played by Parineeti Chopra.
