About Lena Dunham’s ‘Too Much

Jessica (played by Megan Stalter) is a New York workaholic in her mid-thirties, grappling with the aftermath of a shattered relationship she believed would endure forever, leading her to gradually distance herself from everyone she knows. As the city echoes tales of her own misconduct, she opts for a fresh start by accepting a job in London, intending to embrace a solitary existence akin to a Bronte sister. However, her plans take an unexpected turn when she encounters Felix (portrayed by Will Sharpe) – a walking embodiment of warning signs. Despite the complications their unconventional bond brings, they find it impossible to ignore. Now faced with the question: do Americans and Brits truly speak the same language? From the creator of Girls and the producers of Love Actually, “Too Much” presents an expatriate romantic comedy for those disillusioned souls who ponder the existence of true love while fervently hoping it still thrives.

Megan Stalter will play Jessica Salmon

If you had encountered Jessica a decade ago, her inner radiance would have captivated you, yet life has led her on an unexpected journey, thinking it was just a brief run. Felix disrupts all her assumptions, revealing that placing trust in someone can be more daunting than having none at all.

Will Sharpe will play Felix Remen

At 35, Felix stands out as a unique individual, perpetually embodying the spirit of an 18-year-old, clad in attire reminiscent of a punk elf. He races away from an unnamed trauma, seeking solace in fleeting encounters with women who linger in bars after hours, yet waking up perplexed as to why he can’t relish solitude. Raised between English boarding schools and his extended family in Japan, he grapples with a sense of displacement, feeling neither fully rooted in one place nor the other. Music serves as his sole comfort, though it remains largely unheard by others.

Too Much Netflix production status

The series was in pre-production before the SAG-AFTRA strike at the end of last year. Filming was scheduled to commence in November 2023. However, the series is still in pre-production, and production is set to begin in the UK soon.

Thoughts of co-creator about the series

Lena Dunham who serves as co-creator, writer and director said: “This is a show that is very close to my heart – created with my husband Luis, cast with my favourite actors – the geniuses that are Meg and Will, along with a bevy of friends – and partnering again with Working Title, who are behind the romantic comedies that formed me. Netflix has been so deeply supportive of the vision, which is to create a romantic comedy that makes us root for love, brings joy but also has the jagged edges of life.
