Disney has unveiled the first trailer for “Mufasa: The Lion King,” a prequel to the 2019 photorealistic remake of “The Lion King.” They also announced that Blue Ivy Carter has joined the voice cast. “Mufasa: The Lion King” is set to be released in theaters on December 20, 2024. It will face significant competition on its opening weekend from “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” and Angel Studios’ post-apocalyptic drama “Homestead,” which are also debuting on the same day. Mufasa: The Lion King plot summary
Simba is now the king of the Pride Lands and wants his cub to grow up to be a great leader like him. At the same time, the story of Simba’s father, Mufasa, and his background is being uncovered. “Mufasa” will tell the story of Mufasa’s early years, showing his childhood with his brother Taka, who later becomes Scar, the main villain in “The Lion King.” Aaron Pierre will voice young Mufasa, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will voice young Scar. James Earl Jones was the voice of Mufasa in both the 1994 original movie and the 2019 remake. Scar was voiced by Jeremy Irons in 1994 and by Chiwetel Ejiofor in 2019. Lin-Manuel Miranda is writing the songs for the new film and producing them with Mark Mancina, with additional music and performances by Lebo M.
