The Plot

Shardlake” is a four-part drama full of mystery, suspense, and deception. It is based on C.J. Sansom’s Tudor murder mystery novel series. Shardlake’s life takes a u-turn when Cromwell assigns him a mission to investigate the murder of his commissioner at a monastery in the distant town of Scarnsea. The commissioner was there to gather evidence against the monastery. Thus, Shardlake must solve the murder mystery and close the monastery, as it is crucial for Cromwell’s political survival. Cromwell insists that Shardlake take Jack Barak with him to Scarnsea, where the pair find themselves confronted by monks who greet them with hostility, suspicion, and deep-seated paranoia, fearing for the future of their order and willing to go to great lengths to protect it.
